After over a decade of delivering jaw-dropping action through the Radical Reels Tour, the Banff Centre in Canada has retired the series. But for Australian fans — the story doesn’t end there. It evolves.
“We didn’t want to leave our dedicated Radical Reels audience high and dry,” says the festival’s director, Jemima Robinson “So we created the Adventure Reels Film Tour to keep bringing the stoke to Aussie action sport film lovers. This is something to get really excited about.”
Why the Change? More Freedom. More Local Stories. More Action.
Radical Reels may be off the global touring calendar, but here in Australia, it’s only sparked a bigger vision.
“The most exciting change is that we now have so many more films to choose from,” Jemima explains. “We can include the best of Banff’s action films, but we’re no longer constrained by a fixed overseas selection list. That opens up so many possibilities.”
That means:
- Fresher, bolder programming (including films just released)
- Shorter, punchier films that ramp up the energy and variety
- A broader mix of sports (even the weird and wonderful ones)
- And for the first time: a real chance to spotlight local talent
“We’ve got a couple of awesome Kiwi films this year, and going forward, we’re determined to see more Aussie filmmakers and athletes on screen.”
Made for Australians, by Australians
This new era isn’t just about more films — it’s about creating a tour that speaks directly to the Australian adventure spirit.
“It’s massively important,” says Jemima. “We now have the autonomy to share stories that will truly resonate here. And this platform gives local filmmakers a reason to create. Until there’s somewhere to screen a film, it often doesn’t get made.”
Adventure Reels aims to inspire more Aussie films, more community support, and more homegrown legends rising to the big screen.
