Meet Davis Hermes: The World Champion Walking the Impossible

What does it take to stay perfectly calm while standing on a one-inch-wide piece of webbing suspended more than 120 metres above the desert floor?

For most of us, it’s an impossible thought. For world champion slackliner Davis Hermes, it’s home.

This October, Australian audiences will have the chance to witness Davis’ skill on the big screen in one of the adrenaline-fuelled short films screening as part of the Adventure Reels Tour 2026. At just two minutes long, Adrenazen is a breathtaking glimpse into the mind of an athlete who has mastered the art of finding stillness in some of the world’s most uncomfortable places.

More Than Just Balance

Slacklining is often mistaken for simply walking across a narrow line. In reality, it’s one of the most mentally demanding sports on the planet.

Every movement requires complete focus. Every step demands trust. Every breath matters.

Witness, Davis has he balances more than 120 metres above the desert, where there is no room for distraction. Rather than fighting fear, he embraces it, discovering a state of calm that many of us spend a lifetime searching for.

It’s an extraordinary reminder that sometimes the greatest adventures aren’t about pushing against nature, they’re about mastering your own mind.

A Champion Who Never Stops Pushing

Although Davis is only 25 years old, he’s already built an incredible career in slacklining.

Having first stepped onto a slackline at just 12 years old, he has gone on to become a World Champion, set world records, and continually redefine what’s possible within the sport. Yet despite his impressive achievements, Davis remains grounded by one simple goal: inspiring others to discover a passion that excites them just as much as slacklining excites him.

When asked what first made him fall in love with the sport, his answer wasn’t about winning or setting records.

“I just saw slacklining and it gave me a feeling that I knew I needed to do that. I was addicted to it before I even tried it.”

Sometimes the biggest life-changing moments begin with nothing more than curiosity.

Adventure Is About the People

For someone who spends so much time alone on a line suspended high above the ground, Davis is quick to point out that adventure has always been about community.

One of his most memorable mountain experiences wasn’t setting a record or completing a difficult line it was being caught in a snowstorm while bolting a new highline with his friend Jayden.

The conditions were far from ideal, but having someone beside him made all the difference.

Likewise, after competitions or major events, Davis says his favourite way to celebrate isn’t with trophies or fanfare. It’s simply spending time with the people who shared the experience.

It’s a reminder that while highlining can look like a solo achievement from the outside, it’s usually built on friendship, trust and shared experiences behind the scenes.

Big Dreams Still Ahead

Even after becoming a World Champion, Davis isn’t finished chasing ambitious ideas.

His dream adventure?

Combining highlining and skiing on Denali, North America’s highest peak.

It’s the kind of bold goal that perfectly captures the spirit of the Adventure Reels Tour: always looking towards the next challenge, the next horizon, and the next impossible dream.

Play Hard. Do It Well.

If Davis had to sum up his philosophy in just a few words, it would be:

“Play and do it well.”

Simple.

Authentic.

And perhaps exactly what adventure is all about.

David Arnaud: The Kayaker Behind the Camera of Gabon Uncharted

What happens when the person behind the camera understands exactly what it feels like to be the person dropping into the rapid?

For filmmaker David Arnaud, adventure filmmaking isn’t simply about capturing spectacular moments. It’s about understanding what lies beneath them: the uncertainty, judgement, friendship and fear that exist long before an athlete commits.
That perspective is at the heart of Gabon Uncharted: Sending Ivindo Falls, screening as part of the Adventure Reels Film Tour 2026.
